New: LongDescription 0.0

Users have inquired about setting a “Long Description” in iTunes that causes a little gray circle with a white ‘i’ in the middle of it to show up next to your files. This isn’t a tag in the sense that it is contained within the file itself, but within iTunes’ library file. I wasn’t sure how to incorporate it into Tagger because of this, so I made a little command line program instead.

It’s really simple to use. Download the ZIP file, unzip it, and double-click run.bat to start it up. iTunes will load and in the command line you will be prompted to enter a Track Name. This is the title of the track you wish to add the description to. Be warned, as it will be whichever file it first finds with this name (read as: it may not be the one you’re looking for). You will then be prompted to add a description, which should appear instantaneously in iTunes.

I’ll be honest, I’m not that comfortable using DOS to add the long descriptions.

You know what, I was the one that suggested this, and I’ll be the one to kill my suggestion. I’ll just wait for it to be properly incorporated into AtomicParsley, just like every other feature.

And like what you said, you might tag the wrong file. And I want to be able to edit my Long description, like every other feature in Tagger already.

I guess I’m a little TOO eager to have every tag incorporated into Tagger.

So there it is everyone, the truth, boy was it (the suggestion for the Long Description) a bad idea.

It’s perfectly safe and easy to use, and I know I’ll continue to use it. But for the record, it is almost a sure thing that it will never be incorporated into AtomicParsley.

Would anyone be interested in having Tagger have the ability to set a long description on a custom uuid atom? It won’t be read by iTunes in any way, but it may be interesting to support…
